ECO-GT pilot completed: students as experts in environmental communication
Throughout the semester, Polish students from Gdańsk University of Technology participating in the ECO-GT pilot immersed themselves in a unique learning experience that strengthened both their communication and collaboration skills in the context of environmental protection and green technologies.
Working in interdisciplinary teams, students took on the role of experts responding to real-world scenarios—from ecological disasters to operational failures at wastewater treatment plants. Their challenge was to analyse the technical background carefully while also communicating complex information clearly to different audiences. Students crafted messages for various stakeholders, learning how their communication needed to adapt when addressing local authorities, such as mayors, versus the media or the general public.
A core part of the pilot involved critically examining online information about real environmental incidents. Students assessed sources for credibility and relevance, spotted gaps in public communication, and suggested ways to improve clarity, accuracy, and impact.
Through presentations, engaging in expert panels, and peer-to-peer discussions, students increased their public speaking skills and reflected on the responsibilities of communicating technical knowledge. By combining expertise with effective storytelling, they explored how clear, informed communication can support the green transition.
We cannot wait to carry this energy and creativity into the next semetster, turning ideas into action and making effective environmental communication a reality!
