Academic Collaboration at Gdańsk University of Technology for Better Engineering Education

On 27 March 2025, the Polish ECO-GT project team met with academic teachers from various faculties of Gdańsk University of Technology for a collaborative workshop focused on communication and other transversal competencies in engineering education. The ECO-GT competencies focus on engineers’ ability to communicate, collaborate and operate effectively in complex, interdisciplinary and sustainability-oriented projects, including teamwork, stakeholder interaction, documentation, and reflective communication across the project lifecycle.
The workshop provided a space for a structured exchange on how ECO-GT competencies are currently represented within engineering programmes at the university, including their scope, positioning within existing courses and the degree to which they are made explicit in teaching practice. A key part of the workshop was devoted to identifying challenges, opportunities and practical strategies for strengthening these competencies—whether by integrating them more consciously into existing courses or by developing new approaches within current curricula.
The exchange of experiences between educators from different disciplines offered valuable insights and allowed participants to revisit established teaching practices from a fresh perspective, opening new possibilities for enhancing engineering education in the context of the green transition.
