ECO GT European Summer School on Engineering Communication for the Green Transition
In July the ECO GT project successfully delivered the European Summer School on Engineering Communication for the Green Transition, hosted by Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD) in Portugal.
The Summer School brought together more than 70 engineering students from seven countries and 16 educators from engineering, applied linguistics and communication. Over the course of an intensive week, participants explored the role of communication in engineering through lectures, workshops and collaborative project work.
The programme covered a wide range of topics, including situated communication in engineering, communication planning, empathy and applied listening, English as a lingua franca, science communication, stakeholder engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge brokering, professional skills and communication through design thinking.
Working in international and interdisciplinary teams, students developed communication plans for engineering projects, considering communication at every stage—from collaboration within project teams to engagement with external stakeholders. They also contributed to the project’s research by participating in focus groups on communication competencies in engineering education and presenting posters with recommendations for strengthening communication training at their home institutions.
